How to Play Apex Legends on Mac Without Bootcamp

Unfortunately, there's no version of Apex Legends for Mac but the good news is, there are a few easy way to play it on a Mac including M1 Macs.

As long as you have an iMac from late 2012 onwards, MacBook Pro from mid 2012 onwards or one of the latest M1 Macs, you can easily install Apex Legends on a Mac.

Note however that if you really want to enjoy EA's Battle Royale shooting game on your Mac at its maximum performance level we strongly recommend getting an eGPU unit for your Mac.

An eGPU vastly enhances the graphics capabilities of your Mac and will allow you to play games like Apex Legends at their maximum frame rate, just as if you were using a PC.

This means no lag or jerky graphics due to limited frame rates. The game will be very choppy without an eGPU and make it impossible to play a first person shooter like Apex properly.

An eGPU will even allow older Macs to play Apex Legends that don't have the NVIDIA GeForce card installed.

eGPUs also allow you to enjoy VR and AI applications by allowing you to use a VR headset with your Mac.

Note however that eGPUs don't work with M1 Macs and to play Apex Legends on an M1 Mac, we strongly recommend using a cloud based gaming solution like GeForce Now (see option 3 below).

With all this in mind here are three ways to play Apex Legends on a Mac.

1. Install Windows On Your Mac

Important Note: This method does not work for playing Apex Legends on M1 Macs. The only version of Windows 10 that works on M1 Macs is Windows 10 for ARM which is not compatible with EA Origin.

Whether or not you decide to get an eGPU, you'll need to install Windows on your Mac first to play Apex Legends on macOS.

There are various ways to install Windows on your Mac but we recommend using Parallels for Mac because it's by far the easiest method and allows you to run macOS and Windows 10 at the same time.

Even better, nowadays you can install Windows 10 on a Mac for free – you only have to purchase it from Microsoft if you want to customize it.

Alternatively, you can install Windows on Mac using Boot Camp but it's not as straightforward and you can only boot your Mac in either macOS or Windows, not both at the same time like with Parallels.

If you've got an AMD Radeon graphics card in your Mac, Installing Windows with Boot Camp also means you'll have to download unofficial AMD graphics card drivers to enable your Mac to play Apex which may void your AppleCare warranty.

If you don't have an eGPU, Apex will just about play on your Mac but the important thing is you must have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 card or higher. You can check if your Mac has one or not here.

Once you've installed Windows on your Mac, simply download EA Origin in Windows and then search for Apex Legends in the Origin Store.

If you don't have an eGPU, you will notice some performance issues playing Apex Legends on a Mac.

There will be a lot of lag and frame rate issues but it is playable.

To improve performance we recommend going into the Apex Legends graphics settings and setting them all to low and reducing the resolution to 1280x720.

The maximum frame rate you can expect is about 50fps but it should average around 25-30fps which is definitely playable.

You can watch Apex Legends running on a Mac in Windows below.

2. Use Sony Remote Playback

If you've got a Playstation 4 or Playstation 5, you can stream Apex Legends to your Mac using Sony Remote Play.

If you're using macOS Catalina or Big Sur, you can even connect a wireless Sony Playstation controller to your Mac using Bluetooth.

This even supports voice chat either via your Mac's built-in microphone or via an external mic.

Note that you'll need an internet connection with a download speed of at least 15Mbps for Sony Remote Playback to stream Apex Legends to your Mac.

There are also other remote desktop software for Mac that support connecting your Mac to other consoles such as the Microsoft Xbox.

3. Use a Cloud Gaming Service (Best For M1 Macs)

There are now a few Cloud gaming solutions that Mac users can use to stream Windows only games to their Mac.

The best cloud gaming platform for Mac users at the moment is NVIDIA's GeForce Now For Mac.

GeForce Now for Mac is the best way to play Apex Legends on M1 Macs because it's all hosted in the Cloud so it works on any platform and any Mac.

GeForce Now provides excellent streaming quality and an increasing catalog of games for streaming to macOS.

Ideally you need a very fast internet connection of at least 50Mbps upload and download for GeForce Now to deliver Apex to your Mac effectively.

Unfortunately, at the moment GeForce Now is not accepting new subscriptions although new capacity is being added.

You can however use the free service but it's limited to only one hour gaming.

GeForce Now also allows you to use ShadowPlay on Mac too.
